Image Compressor & Resizer

Shrink photos and convert between WebP, JPEG and PNG. Files never leave your browser.

About this tool

Photos that run to several megabytes each are the norm, and they are usually the reason an email attachment is rejected, a page loads slowly, or an upload form refuses a file. This tool shrinks a photo’s dimensions and re-encodes it in a different format to bring the size down.

There are three output formats. WebP gives the smallest file at a given quality and suits anything destined for the web; JPEG is the safe choice that opens anywhere; and PNG is lossless, which matters for screenshots or images containing text and sharp shapes. Because PNG is lossless, the quality slider has no effect on it.

Setting a maximum width shrinks anything larger and leaves smaller images untouched, so nothing is stretched and blurred. Occasionally the result comes out bigger than the original — that happens when an already well-compressed file is re-encoded, and the fix is to try a different format or quality. All of the work happens in your browser; the file is never uploaded.
